Philippolis

I visited a small town a few years back and it was a life changing experience for me, below are my thoughts of my trip.

"You don’t know how it is to live from hand to mouth daily.
What’s worse is that you don’t appreciate what you have, you take it all for granted. You criticize the beggar on the street, for not going out there & finding a job. But you don’t realize how difficult it can be! This past weekend I’ve lived in a town with the super rich & with the down and out poor, whom both I’d never look down upon.

I honestly wish you guy could’ve lived the life & see what we saw this past 5 days in Philippolis. To see how people from a small community struggle & and yet still they take in those kids whose parents have died. The stats reveal that more than 100 people die a year because of various reasons.

This has been a lifetime experience, it made me look at my life differently & so far, I’ve changed my outlook on it completely. What I’ve experienced, no one can take away & no one can dare to compare. I stand before you asking you to carry your past & present experiences with you, for you never know when you may need it. As much as I hated the idea of going to a small dorpie like Philippolis, my appreciation for being chosen to represent our school transcends a 1000 time beyond that.

I was stupid enough to take for granted what I had, stupid enough to complain about what my unperfected life, stupid enough not to admit when I was wrong. Where as in this case, I used my intelligence & absorbed every moment I spent in Philippolis. I found that diamond & this small dorpie has dusted & shined it, within the span of 5 days. & Today I stand before you all as a better person coz of this small town & the diamond… it’s within me!"
